📋Overview

NorthStar Compass ("the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and your rights.

📊Information We Collect

✓ We collect NO personal information.

Specifically, we do not collect:

• Personal identifiers (name, email address, phone number)
• Device identifiers (advertising ID, IMEI, Android ID)
• Location data sent to any server
• Usage analytics or behavioral tracking data
• Crash reports or diagnostic logs sent to external servers

📱Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted:

• Saved waypoints (name, coordinates, altitude, group, notes)
• App preferences (unit system, coordinate format, north mode, theme)

All locally stored data is protected by the device's built-in security (Android Keystore).

🔑Special Hardware Permissions

Location (while using the app only) — used solely to display your GPS coordinates, altitude, and calculate magnetic declination for True North mode. Location data is never stored on external servers or transmitted anywhere.

Device sensors — the compass, gyroscope, and accelerometer are used to determine your heading and tilt angle. Raw sensor data is processed on-device and never leaves your phone.

Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — required only if you enable the optional floating compass overlay. This permission lets the compass appear on top of other apps; it is not used for data collection of any kind.

🗑️Your Right to Delete Your Data

You can delete all locally stored data at any time:

1. Open NorthStar Compass
2. Go to Waypoints → swipe on a waypoint → Delete, or uninstall the App
3. Confirm deletion

This permanently removes all app data from your device. Uninstalling the App also removes all associated data automatically.

👶Children's Privacy (COPPA)

NorthStar Compass is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App collects no personal data from anyone, it poses no privacy risk to minors.

📋California (CCPA) & European (GDPR) Rights

Because we collect no personal data:

• There is nothing to access, correct, export, or port
• There is no data to delete from our servers (none is ever sent)
• We do not sell or share personal information with third parties

California residents or EU/EEA citizens with questions may contact us. We will promptly confirm that no personal data about you exists on any external system.

If we update this Privacy Policy, we will post the revised version at this URL and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
